Information about Daylesford
Right in the heart of Victoria’s spa country, Daylesford is a paradise situated only a mere stone’s throw from busy Melbourne. Due to both its quality and proximity, it has long been one of the most highly regarded areas for relaxation in all of Australia.
Home to only 3000 residents, Daylesford’s population grows daily as tourists come to enjoy the wonderful offerings, including the mineral springs for which the area is famous.
Daylesford was originally a gold-rush town. After the bust, a group of primarily Swiss-Italian immigrants swept in, leaving their mark on the town forever. You’ll feel it in the gardens and architecture, well preserved over the past century. The gold is gone, but in its wake it left a wonderful assortment of opportunities for enjoyment, including relaxing mineral waters, gentle boating on the lake, and fantastic antique shopping. You’ll also find a significant number of holistic healers and practitioners. Each offers a service different from what you might expect. Either have the treatment come to your accommodation, or stroll over to your chosen relaxing retreat. Whichever you prefer, the local healers will be happy to help.
Daylesford is also home to the nationally recognized Convent Gallery. From here, you can explore Hepburn Regional Park along the Tiperrary Walking Tack. For dinner, enjoy the elegance of the renowned Lake House Restaurant, or any of the other fine establishments. If you’re traveling with the kids, they’re sure to enjoy a trip on the vintage railway that runs through Wombat State Forest. Keep in mind that this trip operates only on Sundays.
The area is also well-known for the Regional Producers Day festival, held each February. Sample some of the freshest local produce around, literally straight off the tree. You could also check out the Chillout, the largest gay and lesbian lifestyle festival in all of Australia.
