Forget-me-not Cottage is a mix of the old and the new, with the best of both worlds. It is as the name suggests. Situated in the historic village of Oatlands, just one hour from Hobart and Launceston, it makes seeing Tasmania easy!
The double bed is on a mezzanine floor with a cot also and a twin room on the ground floor. The cottage has a large stain glass cathedral window on the sunny side, which naturally warms and brightens Forget-me-not, but also has under floor heating, a pot-bellied stove and electric blankets. All necessary utensils for self-contained living, including microwave, electric frypan, colour TV, washing machine and all provisions for breakfast plus complimentary port, sherry and plunger coffee. There is a claw foot bath with a shower over it.
Forget-me-not Cottage is ideal for a romantic getaway or for a family holiday in a warm cottage jam packed with memorabilia.
Oatlands is a peaceful, pretty colonial township just off the Midlands Highway (A1), about 84km north of Hobart. The town has more Georgian and early colonial buildings than any other town in Australia.
There is a chemist, library, post office, two banks, two butchers, two supermarkets, two take-aways, two service stations, a draper and a newsagent. Blossoms of Oatlands and the Stables do light meals. There are two pubs, one with a restaurant "Mishla on High" and we have 2 coffee shops incorporating an Art Gallery and an Antique Shop. There are 3 antique shops and the Central Tasmanian Tourism Centre also has a wonderful selection of Tasmanian crafts for sale. We have an R.S.L Club, Rotary, bowls, golf, football and a swimming pool. There are three churches; Catholic, Church of England and Uniting Church. All these welcome visitors.
The district is a rural area and Oatlands is a small village with the greatest attraction being the number of colonial buildings in the vicinity. Oatlands boasts the greatest number of Georgian buildings in the nation! The highlight is the Callington Mill Complex.
One hour gets you to Launceston, Hobart and the East Coast and Central Highlands. Of course, closer to home there is a nice drive to Interlaken, then either down to Bothwell or Tunbridge, Ross and back to your cottage. Interlaken, is one of the best fishing areas in the state. Licences and fishing tackle can be purchased ay Mancey's Shop is Oatlands.
