Ideally situated in the heart of the Southern Highlands of NSW, halfway between Sydney and Canberra, this 19th century home with its wide verandahs offers friendly comfortable accommodation.
Five tastefully decorated bedrooms, four with ensuites, one with private bathroom and one adapted for those with physical disabilities. Three of the rooms have queen beds, the fourth bedroom has a double and single bed and the fifth has a king bed that can be converted into two single beds.
The large lounge room, like the dining room, is richly decorated in warm colours and features original artwork by prominent local and Sydney artists. Some of these items are for sale. The polished floors and 12ft high ceilings throughout the house add to the ambience. There is also a television, a well stocked bookcase and a number of games and puzzles for those unfortunate days when the weather makes it more pleasant to be indoors than out. The North facing sunroom that leads out to the wide deck is a real sun trap. Breakfast is served in the dining room and we try to make the blackboard menu of seven or eight choices varied and interesting (why not try the house speciality "herons nest").
For your comfort the house is fully centrally heated.
In accordance with latest legislation, the house is "Non Smoking".
We have incorporated a kitchenette equipped with kettle, a small micro-wave and a refrigerator which gives you the opportunity to make drinks or warm up a pizza.
We have tried and hopefully succeeded in making the property " user friendly " and welcoming to those with physical disabilities by providing wheelchair access. The fourth bedroom has its own private entrance accessible via a ramp from the front of the house. The ramp leads on to the deck that continues round the house where wide double doors provide access to the sunroom, lounge and dining rooms. This bedroom has an ensuite that includes fittings and fixtures designed for wheelchair access.
Heronswood House is easily recognisable by its high red brick wall and conifer hedge and is close to the intersection of Argyle Street and the Illawarra Highway to the north of Moss Vale. It is an ideal centre to explore the Southern highlands of NSW with its abundance of antique and craft shops, historical attractions and the Bradman Museum. For those more inclined to the outdoors, the area abounds in beautiful scenery with Morton National Park, Fitzroy Falls, Kangaroo Valley and Wombeyan Caves in close proximity. There are several golf courses, horse riding and bush walking trails all close by.
