The historic city of Launceston and the surrounding area contains some of Tasmania’s most stunning scenery and beautiful old buildings that are abound in character and old world charm.
Ashton Gate was built circa 1880 by Mr AW Birchall, who became the owner of Australia’s oldest bookshop. It remained the Birchall family home until the mid 1920’s and first became a guest house after World War II.
Lovingly restored to provide modern conveniences and nestled amongst the roses and lavender of the beautiful English style garden, this elegant home offers guests a haven in which to relax and enjoy the friendly and homely atmosphere.
The house has eight well-appointed, ensuite bedrooms, a spacious guest lounge with log fire and a self-contained apartment in the Old Servants Quarters.
Spend the evening in the guest lounge, reading or enjoying the company of other travellers and wake to a delightful breakfast overlooking St Georges Square.
