Nestled between Lake King and Bancroft Bay on the Gippsland Lakes is the village of Metung. Located at the heart of Victoria¿s aquatic playground Metung provides the perfect place for a holiday by the water. This picture-perfect village is almost surrounded by waters and boats. The waters bring an abundance of birdlife, dolphins and great fishing. There is safe swimming for the children, and numerous walking tracks to explore. Boating is Metung's tradition, reflected in the collection of old wooden boats and the white dots of sails skimming across Bancroft Bay. Bring your own boat, hire a boat for a touch of adventure, or sit back and enjoy a skippered cruise. Metung holidays are of gentle walks along the water's edge, relaxed dining, taking in the views, watching the birdlife, getting out and exploring the surrounding areas, or maybe just fishing from the jetty.

Travel Directions

Metung is an ideal holiday destination and base to explore the Gippsland Lakes and unearth this wonderful east corner of Victoria. Metung, is just off the Princes Highway, a little over three hours drive east of Melbourne and a little longer from Canberra. For our guests travelling from Sydney, Metung is just 20 minutes past Lakes Entrance. Once you arrive at Swan Reach, where the Princes Highway crosses the Tambo River take the Metung Road turn-off to the right and head 8 kilometres down to the sunny shores of Bancroft Bay where you¿ll find McMillans of Metung Coastal Resort.
