Wombat Hills is a peaceful retreat in a stunning mountain location, just 15 minutes from Mansfield. The first thing you'll notice is the eagle's eye view of rolling hills to blue mountains right across the horizon. The jetty on our private lake is an ideal place to unwind and enjoy the scenery. Borrow a fishing rod and see if the trout will accept your invitation to dinner. If not, console yourself with drinks in the gazebo built over the lake and wait for the glorious mountain sunset reflected in the water. Our three stone cottages are nestled amongst acres of beautiful gardens, where there are several quiet nooks to sit with a cuppa and admire the scenery. You might spot a kangaroo just outside your door and you'll be amazed at the number of birds. It's easy to lose track of time as you laze in the hammocks on your verandah watching the light change over the valleys below. Your double spa overlooks a private courtyard and the bush gully with Mt Buller in the distance. Electric space heating and reverse cycle air-conditioning ensure your comfort all year round. Things To Do

Located between Mansfield and Tolmie, not only does Wombat Hills serve as an excellent base from which to tour Victoria's high country, but it is also well placed on the scenic route linking the Yarra valley with both the historical Beechworth/Bright area and the Milawa/Rutherglen wine regions. Situated just 18 km from Mansfield, but 1,000 feet above it on the slopes of Mt Wombat separating, the Delatite and King River Valleys, Wombat Hills is an ideal base from which to enjoy many activities that are available in this area. All within 45 minutes drive are: - Downhill & nordic ski-ing - Fishing - Swimming - Canoeing - Rafting - Boating - Cycling - Hot air ballooning - Airplane joyrides - Mountain bike riding - Horse & camel rides - Wineries - Bushranger haunts - Bushwalks and scenic picnic sites Or even, just put your feet up and relax in the gardens of Wombat Hills and await for an alpine sunset to take your breath away.

Travel Directions

From Mansfield: (If possible please ring ahead for a detailed map to be emailed or faxed) 1) At the end of the divided road in the main street (High Street), take the road straight ahead to Tolmie. 2) At the end of the park on your left, turn left into Tolmie Road towards Whitfield 3) After approximately 4- 4.5 Km turn right into Barwite Road. (It is the first sealed road on your right since leaving Mansfield; don¿t miss this or you¿ll end up in the bush at the back of Tolmie.) 4) Follow the sealed road for approximately 5- 5.5 Km and turn left at the crossroad into the Old Tolmie Road. (It¿s the only sealed road) 5) Drive 2 Km, cross the Broken River and continue up the hill for approximately 5 Km. 6) Turn right into Lochiel Road . We are about 0.5 Km down the road on your left. (Wombat sign at the gate.) 7) Follow the right hand fork into the drive and arrive at our house for directions to the cottages

Fern Cottage

Fern Cottage has a spectacular view over the lake at Wombat Hills to the Victorian Alps beyond. In winter you can see the snow sparkling on Mt Buller from the comfort of your chair by the open fire. Electric space heating and reverse cycle air-conditioning ensure your comfort all year round. Facilities include QS bed, CD/DVD/VCR/TV, fully self contained kitchen, private gas BBQ and outdoor setting, digital safe. Fern also has a double bed settee in the lounge.

As 2 of the bedrooms have QS beds and the other has a double brass bed it is equally suited for most group or family configurations. Rose also has two bathrooms with walk in showers, one has a corner spa as well. Wood Fire heating and reverse cycle air-conditioning ensure your comfort all year round.
