Cairns Info

Cairns is best known as the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, but the city offers much more to its many visitors. With plenty of cosmopolitan offerings, Cairns is a wonderful place to spend a vacation exploring the great outdoors. After all, the Great Barrier Reef isn't the only site to see. Also within striking distance are World Heritage listed sites like the Daintree Rainforest and the Outback.

Inside the city itself, there are a number of exciting ways to pass the time. The main attraction is a gorgeous promenade set right on the ocean, and complete with a swimming lagoon hundreds of feet long. At night, young people line the Cairns Esplanade, enjoying the restaurants and bars that make this part of the city so wonderful. Indeed, the Esplanade is popular with all of Cairns visitors, as they enjoy the many options for dining and entertainment.

One hundred years of architecture are displayed to visitors in a unique blend of both Queensland style and more contemporary designs. A great example is the Reef Casino, complete with a simulated rainforest set right there amongst the machines and tables. Other popular ways to enjoy the city include the Regional Gallery, showcasing indigenous works of art, and the Flecker Botanic Gardens, featuring the Gondawanan Evolutionary Trail. This short trek will take you back millions of years into the ancient history of the rainforest.

For those looking for a bit more adventure, you've found your spot. Cairns is an adrenaline-junkies dream, with activities such as white water rafting and skydiving at the forefront. Of course, you can't forget the Great Barrier Reef just off the coastline, widely regarded as one of the natural wonders of the world.
